The all new 2019 Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan

Fancy getting a C-Class but now having the budget to own one? If you’re into a sedan and not a hatch like the A250, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan is the car for you. With a bevy of standard tech, the A-Class Sedan might be the least expensive Mercedes, that most definitely won’t feel cheap.

Size

Obviously, this car is not a hatchback. It does look extremely similar in size to the current CLA-Class. By similar, we meant that it’s length is about three inches shorter but its wheelbase is 1.1 inches longer. It is also much taller the CLA which most will most certainly give more headroom. It’s only similarity is in its width, being at about 70 inches.

Engine

As for now, this beauty will only come in two trims :

  1. Front-Wheel-Drive A220
  2. All-Wheel-Drive A220 4Matic

Both variants will receive the same engine:

  • 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder

This engine puts out 188 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. It’s paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission no matter which variant you choose from. Unfortunately it’s electronically limited to 130 mp/h (209 km/h)

If 188 horsepower seems too low for you, fret not, AMG will also introduce two version of the A-Class:

  1. A35 – should have about 300 horsepower
  2. A45 – should have over 400 horsepower

Features

Though this car is an entry-level model, it’s interior looks nothing like an entry-level. The A220 will be available with all the active driving assistant and has plenty of  switchgear that you can only find in larger, more expensive Mercs. As standard, it will be equipped with a 7-inch gauge screen and a matching 7-inch infotainment screen. Buyers with a deeper wallet can choose to expend both screens to 10.25 inches, creating a panel that stretches more than halfway across the dash.

The infotainment screen mentioned is Mercedes’s latest system called MBUX, and is activated by saying “Hey Mercedes”. How cool is that? The graphics are also brand new and is improved from its current version. In addition to the aforementioned MBUX and autobrake, you get a panoramic roof, LED headlights, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto , dual-zone climate control, keyless start and multiple vehicle modes. Combined all above and the A220 will be the smallest, cheapest Mercedes and the most high-tech sedan in it’s class.

Pricing for the A220 hasn’t been announced yet, but Mercedes says the car will go on sale in the US somewhere around end of this year. Not sure for Malaysia though =(
